King Htilominlo or King Nadaung Myar

Ruling Years : A.D (1121 - 1231)

King Nadaung Myar ascended the throne of Bagan after King Narapati Sithu. He was the son of Queen Saw Mya Kan, who was the daughter of the Gardener. He had a sister called Saw Min Hla. He was stated as an inferior in the palace since his mother was not a Princess or a daughter of any high rankings. But it was a mystery to find out that he became the king, in the place of the other princes. King Nadaung Myar had four queens. They are Eindaw The, Taung Pyin The, Alae Pyin The and Myaut Pyin The. Queen Eindaw The descended from the royal blood of King Kya Swa. She had two children, Naratheinga Uzana and Kya Swa, later who became the kings of Bagan. Queen Taung Pyin The had two children, Theinpathe and Tayarmon.

Queen Alea Pyin The was also known as Saw Mi Pyan. She had no children. Queen Myaut Pyin The also had no children. During the reign of King Nadaung Myar, Prince Theinpathe was given as the crown prince of Bagan but he died at his young age. After that, his younger brother Tayarmon became the crown prince again. He also died before becoming the king of Bagan. Finally, Prince Naratheinga Uzana became the crown prince to the throne of Bagan. The Htilominlo Pagoda was built by King Nadaung Myar during A.D 1211.

Then King Nadaung Myar came to be known as Htilominlo King. As the legend say, when the King Narapati Sithu died, all the princes were to stand in front of the public and a white flag was set up. To be fair, every prince had to make a wish and pray to be selected as the king. The white flag bowed to Prince Nadaung Myar and he was selected as the King. So, afterwards, he was also known as the Htilominlo meaning 'desired by the flag, desired by the king'. He also constructed the Mahaboodi Pagoda in A.D 1215. The Pagoda was built with the architectural basic ideas of the Mahaboodi temple in India. There were a lot of internal disruptions of the monarchy during his time. The sons of the other queens never wanted him to be the king and so he was always in danger. But he was able to survive and demolish the enemies around him. King Nadaung Myar also donated the Maha Htay Monastery in A.D 1223. He donated it to the monks who taught him when he was a child. The revolution of Tagaung began in A.D 1229. On the eastern side of the Irrawaddy river was inhabited by Katu tribes, the city was known as Tagaung. Since the time of Anawrahta, they were conquered and became the border city. The Katu tribes did not want to be under the control of the Bagan kings and started the revolution. The war was defeated by the Captain Latkhana Letwai of Bagan and he was rewarded with land and gold. The Katus never had another war again with Bagan.
