King Sawnit

Ruling Years : A.D (1298 - 1325)

King Sawnit ascended the throne of Bagan after his father. He became the king at the age of 16. He was the eldest son of the five siblings, Sawnit, Min Shin Saw, Saw Minyar, Saw Hnaung and Mwe Maedaw. At his younger age, he did not seem to have any interest in the Bagan monarchy.

But when King Kyaw Swa died, the three Shan brothers had persisted Prince Sawnit to become the king. Prince Kumara Kathapa was the son of King Kyaw Swa and Queen Phwar Saw, who was the brother of King Sawnit. He asked for the throne of Bagan to the Ministers, but unfortunately, he was not able to have it and he went to the Mongols for support. The three Shan brothers were very angry about it.

Soon, Prince Kumara Kathapa became the traitor. He supported the Mongols and they started to invade the border areas. But at last, the story about him was lost and no one could tell what happened to him in the end. The three Shan brothers became more and more powerful during King Sawnit's reign. The history says that the three Shan brothers together ruled with King Sawnit. King Sawnit died at the age of 58.
